Congress has two parts:
The Senate has 100 elected folks called Senators. Each state has two Senators regardless of the state’s population. (2 x 50+100 Senators). The Senate has 53 Republicans, 45 Democrats, and 2 Independents who are virtually the same as Democrats.
The House of Representatives. Each state’s number of Congresspersons is determined by population. There are 435 total members of The House: 235 Democrats, 199 Republicans, 1 vacancy.
