“NEGATIVE EFFICACY”

When medical folks assess and identify the value of a procedure or product they pay close attention to a quality called “efficacy”. The word means “Having the power to produce an effect.”
Three of the desired effects of any vaccine are: prevention of original infection; prevention of transmission (make the illness non-contagious); and prevention of re-infection.
If a procedure or product fails any of the desired qualities it is labeled “ineffective”.
If a procedure or product not only fails the efficacy test, if actually makes the problem worse, it is branded “Negative Efficacy”. Such a product is likely to cause more harm than good. (Remeber the Hippocratic Oath all medical people are sworn to uphold? “Do No Harm.”).
