As we move to a more digital society, we leave ourselves open to a number of serious issues. Just yesterday, a cyber attack on Universal Health Services – one of the largest hospital operators in the country – meant that staff reverted to recording patient data with pencils and paper. How could staff access records? Have the records been tampered with? Also, across the nation, many locations lost the 911 service, apparently caused by a glitch in the Microsoft cloud.  So no functioning hospitals and no functioning emergency services … all because of an over-reliance on technology. Perhaps this headlong rush to the digital age needs to pause and take stock.
